Evan//Lifestyle Newborn session//San Diego Newborn Photographer

This Newborn session is so near and dear to my heart, I’m so thankful I get the opportunity to photograph family and all their seasons of life! These two have been waiting a long time to grow their family and I am so happy Evan has come into their lives forever.

In home Lifestyle Newborn sessions are , in my opinion, one of the most authentic ways to capture this precious time. What better place to shoot in than in your own home!? Its the best environment for mama, baby and the rest of the family.

5 tips on how to plan for photos with kids

As a Mom, you try to be prepared as possible with your littles everyday. You can anticipate their needs and be ready with things such as snacks, diapers, activities, the list can go on and on.
When booking and planning for photos with your kids you may not know what to expect.
I've put together my top five list of tips on how to prepare and go through a session with kids smoothly and as stress free as possible.

ONE.
Pick a session time that is ideal for your kids. Most photographers will suggest and say they recommend sunset hour (golden hour) and while I prefer that time of day for lighting I also understand that it may be too close to bedtime for your littles. If that's the case they will probably not be in their best moods that time of day, then I would recommend an early morning or sometime after nap time and we can still get some beautifully lite photos.
This photo was taken in the middle of the day, the light is a little more harsh but its still a great shot!

Two.
choose outfits that are comfortable and easy for kids to move around in. Both of my kids are sensitive to tags and certain fabrics. Therefore I know they will complain if there is a itchy tag in their shirts or an uncomfortable waist band on pants. I'm obsessed with flower crowns but I also know that not every little girl is going to be ok with wearing one. It's always worth a try but don't force something otherwise there might be lots of tears in photos.

Three.
Plan to bring something fun to play with or an activity that your kids will enjoy! Bubbles, a picnic, a favorite stuffed animal, a fun game such as ring around the rosie or dancing are always a fun way to get kids distracted if they are over it or starting to throw a fit. During a session I will always suggest a fun game like peek a boo or dancing to get some giggles.

Four.
SNACKS! Kids can eat none stop, sometimes I like to take a break in the middle of a session for a quick snack! Remember to bring something that won't stain faces or clothes. I also suggest bringing or offering some kind of treat at the end of the session. I'm not against bribing kids for great photos, sometimes it works like a charm!!

FIVE.
Go with the flow.
At the end of the day kids will be kids. We can't always predict their mood changes and even though it can be frustrating we can't flip a switch and turn it off, even though that would be awesome! Of course we all want "the perfect shot" with everyone smiling and looking at the camera. I'd say most if not all of my sessions I can at least get one of those in your gallery.

Some of my favorite images are the in between moments, the candids, everything may not be going exactly the way you pictured it but the moment, together, is being captured and honestly as a mom I'm so grateful for every image of me with my kiddos.

Emanuel Newborn Photography

Meet Emanuel, believe it or not my husband's newest cousin. Born 3 weeks ago, this tiny guy is the cutest newborn! I took these photos on the evening we met him, we brought him a large superhero ballon my hubby picked out. It was around 6pm, dark and raining outside and I wasn't going to do the photos until my hubby and his uncle had the idea to use a flood light! My first reaction was, no, I only shoot in natural daytime lighting. They insisted that it would work and with that bright light and some work with photoshop these photos turned out beautiful!
I'm so thrilled for this little guy's parents and can't wait to watch him grow and be part of this big family.

Hi!

Hi! My name is Christy Golder, I'm an almost 30 year old wife, mama, Jesus lover, introvert, photographer, DIYer, sometimes blogger who loves wine, shopping, chalkboards, water coloring, crocheting, decorating my house, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Mexican food and drinking coffee-while eating donuts of course.

For those of you that don't know me personally, that's a pretty brief description of who I am. Writing this is hard because I don't always think about what makes me, me. Also I tend to be very critical......bad Christy. I'm learning to give myself grace and to truly love myself just the way God made me. Yes, there is always room for improvement and growth. The honest/real me inside gets nervous in groups, loves dancing (ESPECIALLY if I've had a few), is a homebody, is self conscious about a few of my body parts and what people think of me, doesn't like confrontation, a people pleaser, I don't like other peoples feet touching me, oh and I get goose bumps when I hear Styrofoam rubbing together.

I was born and raised in Chula Vista, CA in the same house that my parents still live in. I am one out of four siblings little sister(23 months younger) older brother (2 years older) and my older sister (almost 6 years older) and my parents have been married now for 44 years. Growing up the middle child, along with my older brother I was a tomboy through most of my childhood. One of my fondest memories from childhood was all the road trips we went on as a family, camping most of the time was where my love of the outdoors was established.

I met my husband at our church when I was 12, we started dating when I was 14, got engaged at 17 and married at 18. I can honestly say he is my very best friend and I couldn't imagine life without him, I know sounds so cliché. We've had our share of ups and downs these past 16 years dating, almost 11 of those years married. We waited 7 years to start our family and have Hunter who is 3 1/2 and River who is turning 2 in May.

I started on this photography journey when I turned 21, my sweet hubby bought me my first camera for my birthday. Since then I have saved and bought my lenses and finally upgraded to my Nikon D7000. I am mostly self taught, spending hours and hours of researching, going to classes and practicing to be able to take the photos I do. I've had opportunities to learn from other photographers both in the wedding and fashion industries. I've shot approximately 7 weddings and though I don't advertise myself as a wedding photographer, for a few reasons, it is a dream of mine to one day call myself a "Wedding Photographer".

I love photographing people. People in love, people by themselves, babies, kiddos, expecting mamas and families. Capturing a moment, a look, a feeling in time for someone to hold on to and cherish forever is my passion in life.

"Photography is the beauty of life captured."

6 Months

I can't believe it has been 6 months since our sweet River girl was born. I'm a little late on posting this, she turned 6 months on November 6th. I still can't believe I went my whole pregnancy not knowing what I was having! God has blessed us abundantly with this sweet soul. I told my hubby recently that two of my dreams came true, 1- I always wanted a chubby baby and 2- I prayed my whole life that God would give me a girl.
She is still waking on most nights 1-2 times to eat. I'm crossing my fingers that its just a growth spurt?!? I'm hoping she gets the hang of sleeping through the night soon, that would be nice. Not that Hunter lets us sleep, that's a whole different story. We started giving her solids this past month, She will only eat baby oatmeal but not rice cereal. She likes avocados and munching on apples, pears, bread, arrowheat cookies with her two bottom teeth. She loves to sit and play on the floor and gets on her hands and knees to rock back and forth but then gets frustrated because she can't go anywhere. Her two favorite boys are her brother, Hunter, and her Pa (Daddy), anytime they walk into the room her face lights up. She is a social butterfly but also plays independently very well.
Its bittersweet watching her grow so quickly knowing she won't be a baby much longer but I'm also so excited to see the girl she will become.

A day with Thomas

Yesterday was probably one of Hunter's favorite days in his 2 short years of life. He got to see Thomas the train come to life! My mother in law treated Hunter to a day with Thomas up in Perris CA at the Orange Empire Railway Museum. They had a warehouse full of vintage train cars to check out plus the Thomas exhibit. Hunter had his first ride on a train and it wasn't just any old train, it was Thomas!
These first few pictures are Hunter seeing Thomas for the first time, I think he was in shock.
Thank you so much Nonnie, Hunter loved experiencing this.

3 Months

River Anneliese Golder you have captured my heart. 3 months have flown by, it feels like she has been apart of our family for a lot longer. She is pretty much the happiest baby ever, has been a great sleeper and loves her big brother.
Stop growing baby girl!

River Anneliese Golder

River Anneliese Golder was born on May 6th at 12:50am, 6 days after her due date. After about 12 hours of labor we met our beautiful baby girl. She was such a sweet surprise to me because I thought I was having a boy the whole pregnancy (we never found out the gender of this baby). I would have loved a brother for Hunter but am beyond happy that I got my baby girl.
These past almost two months have gone by so fast. I'm trying to soak it all up and really cherish every moment with her as a tiny baby because I know how quickly she will grow.
She is such a good baby, very mellow, happy, loves watching her brother and is a great sleeper! Hunter also can't get enough of his baby sister and is always giving her kisses, wanting to hold her and so far hasn't shown any signs of jealousy.

It has been quite an adjustment going from one to two babies. I've had some rough days and moments that have taken a toll on me physically and emotionally. I feel like I'm finally coming out of the exhausted, sleep deprived, newborn transition period and am really learning to take each day at a time. All the laundry, dishes, cleaning and messes can wait because more than anything my babies need me.

New babe

My brother and his wife just had their third girl last Saturday. Its been fun having kids the same time most of my siblings are (time to catch up Michelle!! jk ;) I love that all the cousins get to grow up together.
We are still waiting for our bundle of joy to show up, going on almost 5 days overdue....maybe we'll have a Cinco De Mayo babe! :O

Outfit Ideas

I've been asked by all my clients before their sessions; What do I wear?? So here it is, my advice for picking out your families outfits. Trust me I'm no expert on fashion and I want all my clients to feel comfortable in their own clothing and style.
First things first, be true to YOUR style and personality.

Pick clothes from your own closet
You want your photos to reflect you and your family. Plus you'll save a ton of money and stress of shopping at the busy mall for outfits, who wants to go shopping anyway!!?!?! ;)

Coordinate, but don't be matchy matchy
Ok so you know those tacky 80's pictures where each family member is wearing exactly the same thing?! Yeah, don't do that. Pick items that compliment each other and coordinate. Try and pick 3 complimentary colors to work with. Here's a few of my family pictures for examples, there's blues, creams, and browns in our outfits

Ok so the boys shirts have the same pattern but are not the same color.

Clothing with texture and movement

There's texture in the jean material, the lace on my dress and our belts, plus I accessorized with jewelry. Pattern also makes pictures pop, just don't have too much. Remember that accessories, texture and pattern can make an image POP! Or in other words more visually appealing. Flowy clothing can also add that visual appeal.

Hopefully some of my advice can help when your picking out your outfits. My best advice again is to try and be yourself, choose clothing and accessories that compliment and reflect you.

Preggo update - 14 weeks

I love Sundays, we always set aside Sunday's as family day. Today we drove up to our local mountains to explore a town called Pine Valley. Hunter had so much fun at their community park playing on the playground.

I've been wanting to take a few updated pictures of the little guy since the last ones for his 1st birthday. That's getting harder and harder these days since he is so full of energy and wont sit or stand still! I can't complain though, I love this age and his personality that go with it. You wont find him without a smile on his face and something in his hands ;)

My silly little boy. I love that he will snuggle me sometimes, its usually a playful snuggle but I'll take it!! I can't tell you how anxious I am to find out the gender of baby #2! Only a couple more weeks to go. I'm hoping to find out right before Thanksgiving so we can tell everyone!

Photo bomb!!! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. This time change is killing me already! I'm hittin the hay, night!

Happy Mothers Day

I wanted to wish all of you beautiful mamas a very special Mothers Day this year. Now that I am a mother, I understand what a blessing and honor it is to raise another person.
I also want to thank my mama for being my cheerleader and friend. She has been such an amazing example of a patient, kind, giving, understanding, supportive and caring mother. She deserves to be honored every day of the year.

Could'nt be happier this cutie made me a mama ♥

Happiness

They make my heart smile.
Every new day brings with it new discoveries and tricks with our little Hunter boy. He is such a spirited and happy boy, he always has a big smile on his cute face.
I thank God everyday for blessing us with our precious boy, I couldn't imagine life without him in our family.

6 Months

Happy half birthday to my sweet little Hunter boy! You have changed my life forever with your warm smile, silly giggles, velvety skin, spunky personality and happy spirit. I can't believe how fast you are growing right before my eyes, I feel like it was yesterday that I was looking into those beautiful eyes meeting my precious boy for the first time. I love you so much ♥
